IAWM is looking for experienced editors to join our highly skilled team of Editors for the IAWM Journal

The International Alliance for Women in Music, dedicated to fostering the activities of women in music, is seeking applicants for an Assistant or Associate Editor and an Editor in Chief of its quarterly publication, the IAWM journal.

The call is until September 15, 2026 or until filled. 

The Journal, for members and libraries internationally, contains scholarly research on historical and contemporary women in music, reports on women in music, book, performance and recording reviews, member news, and information about IAWM’s awards, grants and more.

The editorial board receives and reviews submissions to produce a journal that is engaging, relevant and timely for our members and institutional members. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the journal’s content and its publication, as well as coordinates and manages the activities of the Associate and Assistant Editors. The part-time position includes a quarterly stipend, and an annual travel allowance to attend an annual musicology conference. All positions are open until September 15, 2026 or until filled.

Applicants need to have a distinguished record of achievement in one or more disciplines of music. Previous editorial experience or musicology degree is required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Solicit, review, and make decisions on submissions
  • Collaborate with assistant and associate editors on the editorial board
  • Manage the review and publication process, including editorial assignments and processes
  • Work with the IAWM President to establish Journal priorities.
  • Maintain and foster relationships within the community of women in music, specifically in scholarship
  • Work closely with IAWM’s creative publication partner
  • Applicants for Editor in Chief need strong organizational, management and personnel skills, and a commitment to publishing high quality, relevant, and engaging writing.
