Dr. Susan Miranda – $300 Award Winner

The International Alliance for Women in Music is awarding $300 and recognition to Susan Miranda, an oboist whose career has championed new music, forgotten works, and oboe repertoire by women composers. In 2019, Miranda organized “Resonant Earth: Sounding the Landscape through Her Voice” , an ongoing project which commissions female-identifying composers to write music about U.S. National Parks.

Dr. Susan Miranda is a Fox Products Performing Artist and Adjunct Professor of Oboe at Dordt University. A performer, educator, and entrepreneur, she is committed to expanding the oboe repertoire and engaging diverse audiences. With over forty premieres in the past decade, she has appeared at conferences of the International Double Reed Society, International Clarinet Association, North American Saxophone Alliance, SHE Festival, and Music by Women. International performances include IDRS Thailand (2023) and ICA Ireland (2024), with an appearance at the 2026 International Duo Symposium in Costa Rica. Her ensembles—Larkspur Reed Trio, Dúo León, and Reed5—support commissioning, outreach, and education.

Jeanne Hourez – $100 Award Winner

The International Alliance for Women in Music is awarding $100 and recognition to pianist and chamber musician Jeanne Hourez. Hourez performs internationally with a focus on centering women composers in her repertoire. Blending traditional repertoire with experimental and new music, Hourez’s performances aim to educate audiences about women composers and their contributions to the classical canon. Outside of performing, Hourez’s research focuses on alternative repertoire related to women composers for piano.

French pianist Jeanne Hourez is recognized for her versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, researcher, and advocate for underrepresented voices in music. She actively performs across Europe, North America, and Asia. She has presented her research on women composers at national and international festivals and conferences, including CMS, MTNA, the Music by Women Festival, SHE: Festival of Women in Music, TMTA, and the Royal Conservatoire Birmingham (UK). A passionate chamber musician and recorded artist, Jeanne enjoys exploring a wide range of chamber settings and frequently collaborates with emerging composers. Dr. Hourez is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Southwestern University.
