Every three years, IAWM brings together performers, composers, scholars, innovators, conductors, audio engineers, improvisers, theorists, and more who celebrate, challenge, and transform our future through music.
IAWM’s 2022 Conference
Call & (Her) Response: Music in the Time of Change
When: June 2-4, 2022
Where: Oregon State University, Corvallis Oregon
Hosted by Oregon State University on their campus between June 2 through 4, 2022, the International Alliance for Women in Music, in association with OSU’s College of Liberal Arts and the Office of Academic Affairs, the conference will be an in-person event with virtual satellite events from across the globe. This conference will bring together people (women AND men) who celebrate Women in Music and challenge, and transform our future with cutting-edge music, music technology, and innovative scholarship resulting in increased visibility, opportunities, and connections. We are creating a collective and community-based cultural happening to elevate, celebrate, and situate female and female identified creatives in music with all kinds of experiences, from all different places and music-making spaces.The submissions included those taking risks to chart new ground, unheard voices advocating for sound practitioners and makers; those reimagining equity and inclusion in the world of making music and curation, and those reaching back to advocate for students, friends, colleagues, and the next generation.
Keynote Speaker: Renowned Musicologist and Researcher Nina Eidsheim from UCLA, will be our featured keynote speaker. Eidsheim’s research interests include multi-sensoriality, production and perception of vocal timbre, twentieth and twenty-first century music vocal music and opera, critical studies in race and gender, performance studies, sound studies, and voice studies. She will discuss the power of the panaudicon listening technology, the ways in which it is wielded, and the ramifications of its use. Her research has been published in journals including American Quarterly, Opera Quarterly, Current Musicology, The Senses & Society, Postmodern Culture, and TRANS-Transcultural Music Review.

Benton County Community Members: Keynote Speaker / Workshop (only) free to Benton County Public in-person, space permitting and online access
Anyone attending and presenting, in person or remotely must pay the registration fee to participate. Our hope is that presenters fully participate in all the activities at the IAWM conference (in addition to presenting their own music, paper, virtual performance, or workshops. We hope to have an engaging and community building experience together. We look forward to seeing you in person or remotely at the conference.

Will these papers be distributed to all registered attendees? Why, when and for how long?
The uploaded papers are for us to be able to share in case issues of connection with you. They are backup and not for sharing with the public. However, we will be recording the June 2-4, 2022 conference and sessions in ZOOM, and will be available for attendees to view. The time period is TBD.
Conference Committee:
The Conference Committee vigilantly seeks out international and U.S. sites for future Conferences. Any institution wishing to host a Conference should contact the committee chair or president. During the two years preceding a Conference, the committee supports the preparations by the host committee.
